I'm going to go with 6/1(2) 5/off(2).

This leaves two fewer shots but has the downside of taking off one less checker. Since blue has an odd number of checkers off, taking off a third one isn't as valuable as if he had an even number off. Granted, blue still wins a fair number of games after being hit, but wins almost all of them when missed.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
