My partner and I solved the problem and had a working model, but the costs to produce and take it to the next step involved having my partner, who had already invested several hundred thousand into the project, to put up the money to go into production. He had a major legal setback in his personal life and will be out of commission for a couple of years. We might resume at that time, but I don't know if he will still be interested in promoting backgammon as he was given a horrible slap in the face from the backgammon community and may have lost interest in backgammon completely.
I have seen and tried another program that works well, and there is progress being made there, and I suspect we will see a fully-operational transcription program from that developer in the next 6-12 months. How and if it will be made available to the general public is a question....the plans are to make it part of an entire package included with tournament play and international memberships. I am very much in favor of the plan and supportive and working with the developer, but I am not able to offer more information at this time as I am honestly not sure how this will shake out and I am not authorized to give out more details.
Bottom line, I am POSITIVE we can have a program that automatically transcribes from a live board to XG, but I don't know how soon or at what cost it will be available to the public.
