golf?

Poker. I don't get the equations losing = frustration and winning = fun. In backgammon and poker success is probable, never guaranteed, and the worst player can beat the best all night long. I'd rather win than lose, so losing is disappointing, but not aggravating. No longer. I'll admit that the first time I lost 10 backgammon matches in a row was aggravating.

Backgammon at least demands constant attention and the company's usually good. Just playing poker is aggravating because of the snail pace and the patience needed for the stretches of fold fold fold boredom, chitchat, chip riffling, chest thumping, whining, wheedling and old jokes from old farts who if there were a gambling god would just shut up and lose faster, and like it. On the plus side, a casino table's a great place for practicing your yes I care about your troubles face, mental note taking on psychological quirks and oddities, and paper reading. The last time I played poker in a casino I finished off two papers, three magazines, four calling birds and had a fine fun time.
