I think the "rake" in betting circles on match plays (e.g., Team A vs Team B) is around 5% of the total amount bet.

Don't know what it usually is in in pool bets (e.g., who will win the World Cup). Not unreasonable to expect a little higher, but should not be so high as to discourage bettors.

By the way, if you want to see high rakes, take a look at horse racing house takes. Yet, there seem to be lots of folk who keep playing against those stupidly resulting odds.
