I have an idea

My "staging a fight" idea was my poor attempt at humor. Sorry you took it seriously. Humor does not always translate well.

But at the same time, what makes bigger news...people getting along nicely does not make headlines. What makes headlines is when people kill and insult each other. So my real point is that I am not sure we grow the game by making headlines this way.

What else makes headlines? Celebrities. Big money. Things that are very interesting or unusual.

So backgammon can get attention if we can find a way to get more pictures of famous people playing. If there are more stories like this one, about a guy winning $17 Million playing backgammon https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-to-win-dollar17m-at-backgammon-until-the-irs-intervenes

Or if we can get interviews in major publications about really interesting backgammon personalities. For example,

Mochy, who dropped out of the best school in Japan to pursue and gain a successful career and become the No. 1 player in the world.

Akiko who got a prestigious Law Degree in Japan but never practiced because she found backgammon more fun and lucrative. And how she took up poker for a short time and won the National Championship.

Art Benjamin, one of the great math experts and showmen in the world, and his skill at backgammon.

Or, people like Blake Fleetwood can write a great article about the life of Paul Magriel and get it published in a major publication...which is what he did!

And I can list many, many more interesting stories that people would read and start to wonder why these people are so in love with that funny game on the back of a checker board.

So, we all have these ideas and we all want to see the game grow, but telling each other about them, while that's not a bad start, is not going to make it happen. What will?

Let's start with an international organization with a marketing committee that develops a strategic plan to do some of the things listed above, and others.

Someone got a better idea? Another idea? I'm all ears.
