People use Anchors in thinking. Using anchors in thinking make us lazy. Because anchors (typical positions, reference positions) help us take decisions without complete examination, we often economize mental effort. Generally OK. Here the questionable timing for a 1-3 backgame made Nack go in for a frontal battle with little chance of success, but a big chance of losing a backgammon and the match.
