I think you are right, Colin. Having played Akiko probably more than anyone else outside of Japan, I know her strengths. I don't know anyone with more of a killer instinct, and more of an ability to focus intently on every move, and more drive than Akiko. Yes, of course she is a very fine player, so are many others and we know from BMAB and recorded matches she doesn't play at the level of the very best. But she makes up for it with her mental toughness.

And she does this while always being a friendly, kind and patient lady. I have never seen her lose her temper or composure. Never.

She will be a force as long as she wants to be.
