The source of the "paradox" is that the doubling window calculation does not take into account the value of lowering your opponent's cube power. It does not necessarily need to be a cube killer for that to be a big factor.For example, if X is 3 away - 8 away with significant gammon chances X has a lot more cube power with a centered cube on 1 then owning the cube on 2.
