I can study for every waking moment for the rest of my life, and I will never ever beat (even once) a world-class chess or go player. Not even close

I was. I have no idea of the potential of other players to succeed at chess or go. Since I am not an expert at chess or go, I really can only express what I perceive about my own abilities.
I can talk knowledgeably about one particular pursuit. Occasionally, I'll get a student who is interested in going to graduate school to study math. Having gone through it myself, I know not only about how difficult it is, but how some people just aren't cut out for it, and no matter how much study they put in, they will never see it to the end to complete a Ph.D. in math. I had one student who was in that boat. She was enamored with the idea of going for a Ph.D. in math. Outwardly, I tried to be generally encouraging while gently pushing her in another direction, but inwardly, I thought, "No way, EVER." For some students, the answer will be, "Yeah, maybe." For the ones for whom I answer, "No way, ever," I will never be wrong about. Never.
Maybe some of us don't believe there are players MUCH better than us.
Somebody has to be the best. I'm just saying it isn't me, and I'm not that close.
It's gonna suck when we play one day, Stick... I'm that ploppy fucktard that will misplay move after move and suck one out on you. I just want you to know in advance that I'm not doing it on purpose just to aggravate you. :)
