I don't mind the idea of having an extra minute or two. The new rule seems clunky for a few reasons. One, it allows a player to think for an exceptionally long tie while the extra time is added to their clock. Two, if players are playing with optimal clock usage there should be multiple clocks being reset each round. I do really like what I perceive is the intent of the rule, making clock usage more comfortable for the masses.
