You can safely forget about being world class if you're 30 and not a GM yet.

I don't think this is true. I think it's true that nobody of said age has ever tried (nor probably ever will) to reach that level. If out of the clear blue sky I suddenly fell in love with chess I believe it could be done but nobody of my age is going to wake up one day and realize "OH SHIT... CHESS IS AWESOME, WHY HAVEN'T I BEEN PLAYING ALL ALONG!?" Chess is a great game, I've known this for a long time, but not my passion so the theory will never be tested by me.
