I have another way. Play the game out. Then flip a coin. If it is Heads the winner of the game stays as winner. If it tails then flip the coin again to decide the winner.

Advantages compared to your way are that it doesn't take as much extra time and also never faced with a situation where the win chances are super low (up until the coin flip always have at least 25% win chance) so player morale is better.
