In Response To: rules for this tourney? (Bob Koca)

There are two scoring systems, which are using to find the best player in this competition: all real results are recalculated according to the procedures used in bridge competitions and adapted for backgammon and described in my book “Fair Backgammon Tournament Rules”.

They are scoring of MAX results and Average results.

Short description of recalculation procedure (presented in all small tables in demo):

First column – real results of all participants for this specific game.

Second column – the ranking of the results (in case of equal results – all these results receive the number of the first place between them => for example, we have 5 equal results from 7 till 11 places – all these results receive the place with number 7).

Third column – recalculation of the results according to the follow procedure: player receives two points for each result less than his own and one point for the each equal.

For example, in small table of G1 we have 7 equal results (-2), which are placed from place number 10 till 16. Number of all results in the column => 21. That’s why we have 21-16=5 results which less than these 7 equal results. For each of these 5 smaller results each player of these 7 received 2 points + one point for each equal result (in our case there are 6, because one of these 7 is player's own result). Full calculation: 5*2 + 6*1= 16. This value receives each player of these 7(with the equal result) and this value is presented in the table G1.

Fourth column – there is the deviation of the results according to the average result in this game (for example, for G1 average result is -2, then the deviation for the real result +2 will +4)

Fifth column – there are PR-results of players in this game.

Sixth column – there are Luck-results of players in this game.

Usually it is enough only one charasteristic to find the best player: total sum value of MAX results or total sum value of average results. But I think that both charasteristics are interesting and necessary to take in the account to compare the final results of all participants. PR and Luck results are presented only to emphasize the importance of real results in each game played in competition.

The winner is the guy who will be the best according to the total MAX and average results.

In demo version the winner was the best not only in total MAX and average results, but he has the best PR and... Luck!

It was a little bit surprising for me, that's why I decided to promote such events around the world to make more statistic, prove my ideas and to show for BG-community real backgammon competition of 21 century.
