I have noticed a general theme on these types of positions, while the opponent lacks significant wood, then it is best to challenge the prime building process. The tipping point seems to be when there are simply too many gammons to lose, or too much tempo to be lost if hit.

Although, this is generally very hard to quantify, and often tends to be a judgement call on how you feel about taking cubes whilst sitting under the gun. Case by case is really my best advice.

One more thing, when your option is to step up to the edge of the prime, the 6 away blot, or into the 'dead zone' (requiring a 16/26/35 etc to jump it), then it is best to go to the edge when there is insufficient ammo for opp, 6 away blot when he has some but not enough to put you away, and stay dead when there is enough to put you away. As I mentioned earlier, its a case by case mostly. Creating a hard and fast rule would be too hard as there are simply too many cases to consider (builder count, zone checkers, anchor possibilities, jokers/anti jokers, race, score and so on - the list could be endless).

Besides, its only a 0.025~ error, so its not like its a massive mistake. For most of us, I suppose, an error that small occasionally isnt a big deal (unlike the 0.454 I did yesterday in a money game....)
