Mochy Challenge Day 1 **QUIZ**

1) The blot on the 10 point has no function. 3 men behind a broken prime, which is not to improve. So the blot on 10 is a liability, if we save it, it will cut a little bit of slime vig, on 8 there it has playability value, the broken prime is to hold, the golden point also. And then there is no other 5, running from 23 in the outfield. 5’s are duplicated.
2) In the early stages, stripping the midpoint is cutting down flexibility. Hitting on 5 is starting both five points, there is no need to address the pipcount. Fighting for position would be my main goal. Hitting steal’s a half roll, with both 5 points started, something good can happen, even if there are return shot. Hitting is very volatile, gains from hitting are huge. Hitting on 5. I saw it to often as the right move in similiar positions.
3) Giving up the midpoint. That creates playability. If we are hit, there are return shots, even if we are dancing, it would be not the end of the world, because the opponent has after a hit a long way to arrive at home. Giving up the midpoint turns a brittle seven point desease into a robust position, where anything goes for several moves.
4) The backgame has several flaws. It can be easier overplayed, there is a lot of room behind. The front position is weak and is difficult to improve. After the double, the backgamer can only play in the outfield, offering shots. So if there is a question, then is the position to good? I don’t think so. Therefore double/pass.
5) Anchor and guard position. Gammons don’t count. The front position from the opponent is already strong. Creating a position, which will not produce shots and is easier to clear, would my priority. Saving the blot. Making the 4 point. The five prime has soon to go, in my eyes a liability for the task to come home. So starting now, making the home position against the guard better.
6) Quiz effect. A blunder could be in this position a move which appears natural against a ‘freaky move’. In the older days, recycling plays were more frequent. A gammon would be nice. How? Squeeze him from the anchor, both checker on the bar against a closed board, a little luck and voila. Make the 2 point and the 8/7. Full speed ahead. There are no torpedos. We would give 55, whereas 44 will bring us police back.
