My apologies Nack for not returning to this position on time. Let me add some of my analysis.
1. I am not sure I fully understand the position pair. The change makes that we get shots earlier, so important to build the board and make the 5. Also, escaping has become easier, so less urgent to free a checker. However, the change also increases the chances to get pointed on inside, and shifting 24/23 is safer than keeping the ace with the 23 open (making the 5 makes our return hits stronger though and we like less to slot the 5 because of the increased chanches of immediate action). I would think long about this position.
2. This is clear, with the board weakened we cannot play for immediate action, because our shots / return shots lack a punch.
3. This is clear. White has difficulty covering the blot and playing safe, so keep the 24 and make a monster board. Also, the race has become worse, so we have less incentive to step up.
4. Again, this is logical, with the 1 instead of the 3, our hits lose a lot of their power.
5. Clear, try to go for a BG, which is best done by closing out 5 checkers.
