My 3.8 falls woefully short to his 16.8.
Play more often. Play money games. Play with the fast timers. And you will win and start enjoying your online experience. Match play does not give you enough opportunities to enjoy your superior skills. It is simply a matter of number of games played per hour. You play more money games per hour than you play matches per hour. More games means more chances for the laws of probabilities to work in the more skilled player's advantage.
Do not misunderstand me. I personally love match play due to its cubing complexities. I play many matches against Snowie. But, you must ask yourself whether you are playing online for fun or for money. I do not play online for fun. I play online for money. And it is so much fun to take other people's money via superior online backgammon play.
Start at low stakes of $.50 or $1.00 per point. As your balance increase, increase your stakes. Play65 gave me a $10 bonus. My total cashier was $10.55 after said bonus. Using money games and progressive stake escalation, my cashier was about $440 in a couple of months. Other online players can brag about much better results. The ratings and long waits caused me to give up online backgammon. Lack of success was never a problem.
I thank REW for first explaining that money or DMP play is the best tool for online profit.
