Even though Blue has 3 men back, I feel making the 5 is better here.

I'd hesitate and might slightly prefer to make 20pt over 5pt if it were the choice. Here the defensive option is the 18pt instead, which is considerably weaker than 20pt and I'd generally need a strong reason to choose it over an offensive move, i.e. being ahead in the race, facing the prime or immediate threats. I see none of that here, so making the 5pt looks natural.

Make the 3pt board, invite exchange of shots. Opponent isn't likely to extend his prime next turn so we're not in a priming game yet and since we are split and have the stronger board, her potential loose builders in the outfield will produce some juicy indirects for us.

I make the 5.
