It's not uncommon to prefer leaving a double direct shot to leaving a single direct shot if it makes cleaning up easier. But here, 5/off 5/2 still leaves a lot of future shot jeopardy even if Blue is not hit immediately. Also, the gain in winning chances (if hit) by ripping off an extra checker is relatively high when you already have 7 checkers off. I'd rip two here.
