One of the main reasons I've always stuck with these forums is that HTML is enabled so you're able to make things bold, colored, italicized, underlined etc... with some very basic tags.

I would suggest going through all of this to understand HTML on a decent level for a regular Joe Schmoe user but if that's too much you can skip to basic or formatting or etc... on the left hand side. (or Google for some other page that explains the basics to HTML, there's no shortage of sites)
