I guess in chess you can use 'seconds' and aids during breaks? So I guess it's the way of the world and I must be all wet. At least both players can study the adjourned position if I understand correctly.
In any chess tournament or match of any importance, there are no longer any adjournments during a game, precisely because there's no realistic way to prevent players from consulting a chess engine. In the old days, you were indeed allowed to consult other people during an adjournment, but consulting an engine has been judged to change the character of the game too much.
In backgammon, it's my opinion that if breaks during a match occur only between games and never during a game, then allowing people to consult books, bots, etc., isn't going to matter much. Sure, you can look up a match equity table, but so what? Your opponent can do that too, so it hardly disrupts the level of the playing field.
Of course, if breaks are allowed during a game then that's a totally different matter, and consulting a bot could make a big difference. ("Oh, wow, I'm guilty of 3 missed doubles in a row!") But my guess is that breaks don't happen in the middle of a game.
