Another possible motivation is to cheat in the player's favor in order to more or less guarantee that the player will win and feel happy. A few times, I have played a backgammon game on an airplane, and the results were so overwhelmingly in my favor that I suspected that the program might be cheating in this sense, but of course I was just going on gut feeling and not statistics. The last thing an airline wants is a customer who complains that their on-board entertainment consists of programs that cheat.
