I watched the live stream but cannot remember this position or what happened OtB. I guess MCG passed? Must be, since I had the feeling he was passing too much during the match.

If I recall correctly... positions where the doubler has cleared his midpoint, and has a bunch of spares on 9-point to 6-point and one more point in his home board (say 3 or 4 point) and the doubled player has the golden anchor with a goal keeper on the ace are passes even if the doubler has 6 shot leaving rolls.

Without being able to quantify the severity, the position on hand is better for MCG in three ways:

1. The midpoint is not cleared yet.
2. Carl has made the acepoint, instead of say either 2,3, or 4 point.
3. He has a solid board in place, so turn-arounds are easy to envision

However,
1. MCG has no anchor
2. Carl can dump checkers behind on two or ace point if necessary
3. Only 63 leaves an immediate shot.

I would pass.
