"Gin position" -- definition

I'm interested in responses to some of Dmitriy's examples (ignore Position 1). Your assumption that both players are trying to win is a partial answer (thank you), but as far as I know that assumption is not even implied in the current rule set.
In a knock-out format I can't see any advantage to the donator (let's ignore all motivations other than winning the tourney).
But the clause in red goes to my point.
I believe there are, or used to be, rules against collusion and settlements, in part because calcuttas can be affected. A lot of people used to care about this issue more than I do. It is impossible to prevent all mischief, but there is still a benefit to shoring up rules that are ambiguous or allow unnecessary leeway for shenanigans.
That aside, there is still the matter of defining "gin." It led to a lively discussion in the 2016 thread.
