If we hit with 15/14*, then I think 8/5* is the 3, because if we play something like 15/14* 12/9 instead, then White's 51 52 53 56 from the bar are pretty bad for us even though they don't hit, so I think the upside of hitting twice is worth it.

So the question is, after 8/5*, do we make a five-point board with 5/4 or do we hit a second checker with 15/14*? Making a five-point board has the obvious advantage of giving White 25 dancing rolls instead of 16, and giving White only 55 and 51 to hit back from the bar. But we risk not ever hitting that second checker, and the second checker is a huge deal here. White's board is weak enough that I would risk hitting twice here. If she enters one checker then I think we're still doing pretty well, assuming we are able to enter quickly ourselves.
