If it financially suited the players for a specific player to lose - perhaps one was being paid illicitly to throw a match for the calcutta outcome for example - then that player could falsely claim gin, and allow a series of non-random rolls to take place that drastically changed the odds in that game.

If the match was not being scrutinised in any way, not streamed and playing in a quiet corner without kibitzers, then there would of course be easier ways to arrange the match result!
