There could be a position where a 44 means a sure gammon and any other roll is off the gammon. Am I missing something or does the ruling guide really say that claiming no gammon then is a valid claim?

Also, I don't see the point in the rules formally allowing wasting the TD time here instead of just rolling it out.

There is also the possibility of player A being gin to be off the gammon assuming good play but with the possibility of blundering by not knowing to fill a gap. If player B says to roll it out and player A calls the TD director player A gets a few minutes to wonder why B did not just go along with what A thinks is a no gammon position.

The exact rules on when resigning is allowed might make a difference in a PRgammon match. Opponent might be gin and resigning might deprive him of an extra decision, for example if rolls an ace with checkers on 1 and 2. However as far as I know it is still the USBGF and not the USPGF so leave the rule setting for a PRgammon event to the individual TD to clarify.
