As Tim already pointed out, I covered this over a decade ago.

Something I wanted to add to this though is that games evolve over time. Rules change, and they should, if there is a good reason to change them. So the first question I always ask in this situation, or the situation of dice on checkers for eg, is is the rule we have in place now not working? Is the new rule worth the disruption?

I believe (in both instances) the new rules makes no real upgrade to the game and could easily be argued that they make it more confusing or worse. If you look at the majority of people who input their two cents they seem to agree. Some opinions are also worth more than others but we won't get into that here.

As far as I know concerning these two rules nobody from the rules committee has ever refuted what was put forth. For the dice on checkers I believe I was told something to the effect of 'you didn't speak up at the time' whereas I hadn't, at the time...I had covered that issue the year before. I was told they thought maybe my opinion had changed lol.

As for this, it has been a decade and I'm out of the bg loop so no idea if they polled the audience or just did what they thought was best. I'm sure my own and others personal opinions which are very public are too in the past for the players that make the rules to know what we would think now.
