Your comment about the point of last take for the trailer being leader's rolls minus 3 is for roll v pip or pip v roll positions. This is pip v pip which is a higher variance position that r v p or p v r. Given the same EPC for the side on roll, the side being doubled can take with somewhat lower winning chances in p v p than in r v p or p v r.
