Rules Check?

You're obviously a fan of this relatively new rule.
You are correct that determining whether a roll is valid when it lands flat on a chequer is generally easy, whether in NY or not. But the occasional situation does occur where it is far from easy to determine this, and where a sharp player might be able to exploit a meeker, more trusting player. Apparently the rules make it easy to determine this, according to the supporters of this 'progressive' rule. (And I also should not use the term 'flat', I am told.) The archived threads on this are of course endless. But the fact remains that these situations do not occur with the traditional rule. Further, as a baffle box user, the problem of cocked dice was very largely solved. I'm glad the new rule is not the default here (in the UK).
