Against a beginner, it is better to break down all the steps including hitting (when pick and pass occurs), moreover when doublets are involved, because his eyes are not well trained.

To be completely respectful, normally a single hand shall be used for all the steps, No humanly easy to do in case of pick and pass. That's why reflexively, every player with enough experience use some shortcuts.

So the question is : is the guy a beginner ?

What he did - the misleading wrong order of operations - doesn't compare with your speedy way of playing .

Avoid this player if possible because escalation (at least verbal) is on the way.
