I can't imagine the equity difference being that great between making the 8pt and the opponent rolling [63] v. making the bar point and the opponent rolling [54]. With [63] the play of 7, 3 leaves a blot which we would certainly rather not do facing such a strong board but it's the minimal amount of direct shots and puts all our checkers where they should be at least.

The real Sticking point for me is while I believe you both have the right play I don't think all the right (main) reasons are included. I believe the crux of the position is way down the road when we have to bear in against the 23pt anchor. Having the bar made sucks the fat one as both fives and sixes play awfully when bearing in whereas if the 8pt is made sixes are mostly killed and fives can be used to bear in checkers in front of the anchor providing for long term flexibility.
