If playing someone who you consider to be relatively close in ELO terms to your playing strength. Then yes.

So, for the sake of purity of play, yes, absolutely.

If you are playing someone who is considerably weaker, then your plays may change with the foreknowledge that you have no intention of doubling your opponent until you see fit. So, in that situation, no.

I only mention this aspect, as I often find myself playing online a lot, and do vary my plays according to my opponent.
