6 to play from the bar

When deciding on plays in these types of positions I narrow down the candidates then reanalyze.
- After entering with the 4 I want to leave the blot on the 21 point so that I might anchor up next turn. There's the minor duplication of 4s also, but the main consideration is wanting the most advanced anchor possible at this point. (we're assuming the opponent will make the 5pt in which case we need an anchor)
- 8/2 - please, such trash, not even a candidate.
- Then it boils down to the only two candidates, 13/7 & 24/18. If there were still 5 on the mid I'd be more apt to play 13/7. 24/18 leaves some hit & covers but it also duplicates aces and sixes. Also, when hit, it'll either be by breaking the 11pt. (no big loss, but a loss nonetheless) or by using up the last spare on the midpoint. Agreed, another minor factor, but everything counts when sizing up two close plays.
By playing 13/7 we sort of duplicate 2s & 6s but getting a 4th man sent back behind the 8/6/5 points is not appetizing. My final answer is 24/18.
