Does anyone have a rule of thumb for this sort of position?

"When in doubt, make the five point?"

But, I'm not really seeing any plays that don't make the five point, so I suppose the real question is which bar point to play to. Blue is ahead in the race so that points toward playing to the 18; the 7 is always a valuable point but without any of white's checkers behind it it's not as valuable as usual. Playing to the seven does unstack the bloated midpoint.

I'll go with the semi-Pottle and run to the 18, but without much conviction.

(NB - was away from home the past week without my computers and didn't bother to make this site work on the phone. Looks like a lot to catch up on.)
