In Response To: rules question / Answer by new A.I. bot, the 'Backgammon Rules Assistant (christian munk-christensen)

Things are moving quickly and it is quite early days. Things are not cast in stone and I'm open to logic and prudence from all parties. In fact, I would hope/prefer that all Federations can reach a common ground themselves. It would be of much benefit to the global backgammon community if a single set of acceptable rules could be agreed upon and now, with this this technology, we are in a much improved position to make this happen, are we not?

I've reached out to Bernhard of the WBGF although he might not have had a chance to see it yet. I'm sure the WBGF will give valuable input and feedback when they get a chance.

>> As for the bot answer to my question, I don't think it solves the problem.

You are right. In this situation, the nature of time and space means that we have to wait for the transgression to happen. Unfortunately we humans are unable to see forwards into the future.

However I am very interested to know from your critique of the bot's solution, do you have a better solution to offer for that situation (that hasn't even taken place yet)?

If you think the rules should be refined to prevent that situation in the first place, I would encourage you to suggest it to your National Federation and the WBGF at your earliest opportunity.

Out of the 3 choices I suggested (good, bad, neither) I think the proposed solution was more 'good' than 'bad', plus also more 'good' than 'neither'. i.e. it was the best option. It even cites the specific sections and page numbers from the USBGF Tournament Rules and Ruling Guide that address your concerns

To my mind, the bots proposed course of action (once knowledge of the transgression emerges through the nature of time elapsing) seems quite logical and reasonable. It would also go a significant way in discouraging repeat, future offences of the same kind.

Inform the Tournament Director: As soon as you notice a delay or abuse of break rules, inform the TD. They have the authority to assess penalties and enforce fair play.

Announce Breaks Clearly: Ensure that all breaks are clearly announced and agreed upon, preventing ambiguity and potential abuse.

Request a Monitor: If you suspect any form of gamesmanship, request a match monitor to ensure the rules are followed strictly.

Let me know if this does not make sense?

Waiting to hear the/any suggestions that are more practical and better than this for this specific situation and to see them get implemented. Maybe there are none?
