I was confused for a long time about why anyone would play 2-point matches. Eventually, the late Paul Money (aka dorbel) explained that there actually can be a bit of skill involved in the initial cube decision, although it has more to do with provoking a cube handling mistake from your opponent than gaining equity yourself.

As for longer matches, even or odd doesn't really matter.
