Hit on the ace point?

I get dinged a lot for failing to hit on the ace. It's a long-term bias against burying checkers and I need to shake it, the problem is that it's often quite wrong to bury checkers on the ace.
Here, entering with the deuce is forced. We can step up to the 18, strip & stack with 13/8, or unstack either candlestick. Which is best?
Strip & stack seems wrong even though we're ahead in the race and it leaves no shots. Slotting the three leaves more shots than hitting on the ace but also doubles the number of covers. Stepping up leaves a triple shot and seems like a guaranteed return to the bar.
I'll try slotting the three point. Hitting loose on the ace is often a great distraction play since it takes away half her roll, but I'm not seeing a lot of value in a distraction.
