Yes, it's very much like intransitive dice!

I have not written a paper on intransitive dice, but the magazine MIT Technology Review has a "Puzzle Corner," and in the September/October 2017 issue, Victor Barocas asked for a generalization to N dice. I interpreted him as asking for a set of N dice such that die 1 beats die 2, die 2 beats die 3, die 3 beats die 4, etc., and so on, with die N beating die 1.

You might enjoy trying to answer Barocas's question yourself before looking at my solution, which was published in the January/February 2018 issue of the Puzzle Corner.
