How much of a problem is it to ditch the no-three-in-a-row requirement?

It might not seem like it, but the no-three-in-a-row is the rule that really makes this game worth playing. There is a big difference between a game state where you've played "once-in-arow" on a game and "twice-in-a-row" on a game. The latter puts you at a disadvantage.

Then, it's not just a matter of alternating boards. Sometimes you really need to play on the board you played last time.
