Kocagammon sounds interesting.
Have you considered one of these tie breakers?
a) When one game is resigned, a new game starts on that board, with the score 1-0 and the trailer needing to win both of the remaining games. ("b" and "c" seem like better versions of this theme.)
b) When one game is resigned, a coin is flipped or dice are rolled (not necessarily with a 50/50 outcome) to decide which of the games decided/decides the contest.
(c) Same as "b" (with or without the flip/roll) except the non-resigning player is awarded some sort of advantage in the remaining game (such as an extra roll immediately if s/he wants it, or whenever she wants it, or s/he can call one of the players numbers for the next turn, or whenever she wants it.)
d) The contest is played on three interlocking boards (instead of two).
e) Third game of regular backgammon (perhaps what you meant by "play again"), or hypergammon, or one-checker gammon, or coin flip decides a 1-1 score.
f) 1-1 score is decided by Koca-hypergammon. If that ends in 1-1 tie, then play Koca-one-checker gammon. If still tied, flip a coin.
