baseball/football/basketball/hockey cards, along with stamps, commerative plates, comic books, vinyl albums, etc. are classic examples of the fact that anything that is marketed as being "collectable" when it is new will never be worth more than you paid for it, and probably not worth anything.

If you enjoy having them, go for it. But don't expect them to appreciate in value.

Except for NFTs. They're different. (c:
