Are positions from a BG book copyrighted material?

It has been discussed several times. A position can't be copyrighted (otherwise I would register the position after 3-1) so you can use positions from a book.

If you take all positions from a book I would be a bit more cautios. Text from a book is obviously a no go.

Given that the BG community is small, many books are out of print and the costs of a lawyer most probably exceed the possible gain I doubt tht you get sued (especially if you are in another country).

I would simply ask the publisher (and explain, that if the book is still in print that it is more or less advertising for the book). If the book is too old (e.g. I assume that for the Holland, Dwek, Cooke books you wont find a copyright holder) I would risk it.
