Is chouette "special" always warranted?

Can you spell out exactly how this works? In particular,
i) Who does "his/her cube" refer to; the captain's cube or the crew member's cube?
When the recalcitrant captain takes the box's cube, a crew member makes the following offer to the captain: I will give you 1 point, but you will also now hold my cube in addition to the box's cube. Other crew members can make the same offer (which as others have pointed out, is also called an "extra").
ii) Who gains and who loses 1 point immediately?
Captain gets 1 point immediately. Crew loses 1 point immediately.
iii) How is 1 the appropriate amount?
Let's assume a 25% winning chance for the captain (obviously, the offering crew thinks it is less).
Expected return for the captain
1 + (0.25 * 2) - (0.75 * 2) = 0
Expected return for crew
-1 - (.25 *2) + (0.75 * 2) = 0
iv) After the cube selling has occurred what input does the crew member have in the game?
We have a social chouette, box and his new cube buddies will be able to consult.
