I could imagine that in some low-equity-but-high-volatility positions (like a last-roll position with a checker on the 5 and on the 2) it could be worth holding the cube if you know your opponent is going to cancel if you roll a winning number and let it go otherwise, but then (after opponent has used their cancel) you would double as a 19/36 favorite before re-rolling.

This is a little contrived (hard to imagine how opponent gets this far without using their cancel) but almost has to be this simple in order to analyze.
