This seeems an incredibly instructive position for thinking about how the cube impacts chekcer play. The cube action after the next play is extremely important. After 3/1* fan it is an extremely efficient cube for us. If the next sequence goes well for opponent it will be too good by a large amount for him which means low cube power for the opponent.

Both of those factors swing the play towards 3/1 for the centered cube situation.

If cube is on opponent's side we do not benefit from that cube efficiency bonus on our opponent's dances swinging choice away from 3/1*

If we own the cube then giving the opponent poor cube power compared to the alternative play is not a factor which also swings the choice away from 3/1*
