I have not disagreed that Hefner may have been more famous than Moore there

There is no 'may have been'. He was. The may have been applies I think to whether Moore was more famous than Hef in the UK.

And while it introduces a slippery slope to the initial question, even if Moore was more famous in the entirety of the UK than Hef Hef would still be way ahead in terms of being famous as the UK is about 68 million people and the US is about 340 million.

The real question that we'll likely never know the answer to is ... who was the better player, Hef or Moore!?
