Part of the GOAT argument if I ever were to break it down again is that yes, you do have to have the accolades to be in the conversation but they do not define the conversation. There are too many other details that need to be understood in the context of the conversation.

From what I've seen/read most agree at the peak of their game that Federer is easily on top of that hill.

Nicklaus won 18 majors, Tiger won 15. Nicklaus came in 2nd in 19 majors, Tiger 7. I don't see that stat as exactly a small difference. (and if you want to keep going down the rabbit hole, Nicklaus has 9 3rd place finishes whereas Tiger has just 4) To bottom line that, Nicklaus has 46 top 3 finishes in majors whereas Tiger has 'just' 26. Letting that sink it it becomes a pretty hefty stat.
