I'm not Bob, but after clearing the seven point, you are forced to blot with a roll of 64. If you play off both the 8 and 7 you put a spare on the four so 64 does not force you to leave a shot. 66, 55, and 65 are bad either way, but four bad shakes is better than six.

Sometimes "paying now" is the right idea if it means more safe rolls later, but what Bob is saying is that it would need to be substantial to make up for the additional two shots now.
