In Response To: Useful Backgammon Sites/Defunct Sites? (Stick)

I feel like the online community is kind of dead compared to how it was a decade ago for instance.

I don't think this is true. You're just saying this because BGO used to be THE place to be. Now the interest in BG is high, but the online community is fractured and goes to many different places to get their fix.

I just logged in to Gridgammon to see if it even still existed. It does and there were about 10 people logged in.

The place to be now is Heroes: heroes.backgammonstudio.com

GridGammon is going to die eventually.

Are you happy with Facebook replacing everything in that arena (rgb, GU, BGO, etc...)?

No, it's completely terrible. I was posting positions to the Facebook BG Strategy page. The positions got a lot of engagement, but then people would forget about it. I would come back in 24 hours and post a rollout, but now it's gone, nobody looked at it again. I've been posting positions that lots of people got wrong, but they have no idea.

So I tried making a new posts showing the rollout, and the group admin asked me not to do that. They said that by posting the rollout on the original post would notify the people who posted that there is a new comment. True, but they also get notified on EVERY post, so my new post is just noise.

In the heyday of BGO (and now), the rollouts would get looked at.
